The Dublin Trap is a recent documentary on the problems lying behind the implementation of the Dublin II regulation, which allows the return of asylum applicants in the country of first arrival in the European « Dublin regulation » area. It tells about about the story of an Afgan asylum seekers in Belgium who won his appeal to the European Human Rights Court in 2011 (Case of M.S.S. vs. Belgium and Greece, 21.1.2011). It is also about the rise of acts of racism and xenophobic attitudes due to the sharp increase in illegal immigration combined with the economic crises.

The case of Greece is an extreme example, although very real and it shows how immigration, asylum and general security policies need to be looked at very closely in order to avoid the rise of « anti-poor-foreigners » movements. In my view, the role of the media in promoting a positive and constructive attitude towards immigration, refugees and security issues should not be underestimated.
